About

Hi and welcome to AspiringSysadmin.com. Contrary to what you may guess from the name this is not a site written by an Aspiring Sysadmin but it is written for Aspiring Sysadmins. My name is Niclas Södergård and I’ve worked as a UNIX sysadmin for over 10 years, administrating everything from small single user desktops to large servers holding tens of terabytes of data. I’ve been mostly taking care of Solaris machines but I also have an extensive knowledge of *BSD and Linux platforms.

This site is meant to describe how I setup an infrastructure. There are a lot of howto’s on the Net but there is very seldom any good description on how to do things right and why it is believed to be the right thing. The reason I want to tell you this is that I believe it is important that both junior and senior sysadmins need to know why we do things a certain way. Sometimes you have to comprise, either because of a company policy or from a usability standpoint.

On this site I will provide you with both information and tools to do your job. It will be Solaris centric but a good sysadmin should be able to work on most platforms.

If you want to contact me send an email to nickus@gmail.com.
