The Practice of System and Network Administration, 2nd Edition

To my delight I saw that Practice of System and Network Administration, The (2nd Edition) is available for pre-order on Amazon. I already own the 1st Edition and it is really a great book. I consider it a must read for any sysadmin or I could even go that far that I would most likely hire a sysadmin candidate that has read it (not that I’m in any position that I can hire people ;-) ) and I really can’t wait until I get my hands on this new edition.

You won’t learn how to setup a DNS server but you will learn all of the soft parts of the sysadmin job. Each chapter is divided into two sections, the basics that you really should get into place and the icing for those who want to go a bit further.

The authors of the book has a blog called Everything Sysadmin.

  1. Hey there! I’d love to hear what you think of the latest edition… I too have the first edition and it’s one of my most loved geek books. I’m considering picking up the new one if I hear good things.

  2. I haven’t been able to get my hands on it yet. Life has kept me busy and therefore I haven’t had time to do my computer related stuff during my free time. But now I haven lined up some blog postings as well so I guess I need to take the time to read the book as well.
